We saw “Be Cool” yesterday, it was very entertaining. I really miss going to the theater to watch movies. Downloading stuff for free is cool but you miss out on the experience of seeing John Travolta’s head 2 stories tall and all the other stuff like wicked awesome sound and $3 Cokes.
While we were over there we went to a comic book store (comic’s are huge in france which has me wondering where all the french comic book movies are) and I decided to thumb thru a copy of an Elekta comic that was on the rack. Flipping thru about 10 pages I saw her stab, slice and maim about 10 dudes across 2 different “scenes”. Which has me wondering why the fuck the movies have to suck so much ass. My hatred for comic book movies has me lying awake at night perplexed. I guess their popularity has been their largest problem because people in large groups in need of something to do will go see a movie even if theyre 90% certain it will suck hairy manbag. Now hollywood refuses to change the comic book movie formula. Why spend more money on stunts, choreography, SFX, etc. when people will pay to sit thru Spiderman’s umemployment woes and Elektra’s brief but bitter love affair with her next door neighbor. I guess the reason I fucking hate them so much is because I want to like them so much.
I saw Constantine today and it was pretty good. Maybe the “comic book movies must suck” rule doesnt apply to graphic novels. Or maybe I was just in a good mindset cuz its all springtimey outside and I got to spend it with my beautiful wife walking around Paris with birds chirping and cars honking and shit. Who knows.
I suppose the biggest question of the day is how does Keanu Reaves keep getting high profile acting jobs while the dude that played Bill drowns in relative obscurity? I didnt think keanu’s “whoa” was any better than the blond dude’s. I did see him a few years later in a softcore porn flick on Cinemax playing a gay dude in the victorian period. I guess maybe it wasnt well recieved.
But yeah.. good times.

watched that metallica documentary thingamagig today and while millionaires that whine bother me something fierce it was pretty interesting to see how a record gets made when your frontman is an egotistical ballsack.
lately ive been trying out anime and found that full metal panic is fairly entertaining to watch. i havent actually watched many animes so i have little to compare it too but i find once you get past the incredibly strange devices the japanese use as comic relief its not so bad. i have seen several episodes of dragon ball z and can safely say that it sucks hairy asses. maybe its meant for little kids after all but i only know full grown adult males that still live with their parents that watch it. I also stumbled onto a very strange japanese show called “oh! mikey” starring manequins. It’s about an american family living in japan. not sure if its brilliant satire or just plain bizarre but it is actually quite funny.

ive probably seen around 500 asian action movies in my lifetime and somehow even the horrendously bad ones are still pretty good. i guess i just like watching sword fights and dudes flying around the room shooting the crap out of anything that moves. why cant hollywood get back to the days when an action movie was just plain action. the days when shwarzenegger was the terminator and seagal and van damme werent straight to video. sure if you look back and compare those movies with some of todays theyre cheesy, but im a purist. i want to see action if i pay to see an action movie. how can hollywood take a comic book which is full of fights and guns and kick assery and turn it into spiderman 2? how the fuck can Underworld be a movie about vampires and werewolves fighting a huge war where all they do is sit around and pontificate?
if we look at the average kung fu movie sure there is a shitload of talking and character development and so forth but hardly ever does 5 minutes pass without someone getting beat down or a restaurant getting shot up. What sucks is hollywood is stealing all the asian action stars to make shitty hollywood movies. i suppose its good to get them more exposure but they wont go back to making smaller kung fu movies once theyre millionaires for stinking up theaters in America. jackie chan is one of the greatest action stars to ever grace the planet but all the movies he’s made in america suck nutsacks. perhaps its because he’s starting to get a bit old i dont know but its not just him its jet-li, michelle yeoh, chow yun-fat and others im sure im forgetting.
maybe hollywood needs to find more tarantinos and richies. maybe they should stop letting the gay dude that creates shows for the WB write all the scripts. i know ben affleck and matt damon should stop trying because theyre just embarrassing themselves and jerry bruckheimer should stick to recycling cop shows for CBS. i guess i shouldnt bitch too much because for now the asian market is fairly “non-hollywood” and their action movies still contain action.
if its not bad enough that hollywood dumps this bullshit on americans and still expects them to pay for it but they subtitle it and force it on the rest of the world too. its fucking embarrasing. i guess that’s why the anime and asian section at the video stores in france are 3 times as big. american’s are the only one’s stupid enough to pay $10 to watch spiderman deliver pizzas while the main antagonist commits suicide.
i think i got it out of my system for now.
